How to Manage a Full LPS Aquarium with Euphyllia: A Beginner's Guide

Do you like colorful corals that move like seaweed in the wind? A full LPS Euphyllia aquarium is a marine paradise with corals like hammer, frogspawn, and torch, which are easy to manage if you follow basic rules. You don't need to be an expert: here's a step-by-step guide to having a spectacular reef without stress.

Water Parameters:

Think of water as coral food. Check them once a week with strips or drops.

Lights and Current:

Place blue-white LED lights 20 cm above the corals, on for 8-10 hours a day. Not too much light, or they'll get scorched! For the current, get a pump that creates gentle waves: the tentacles should sway slowly, not whip around.
Position Euphyllia in the middle of the rockwork, 10 cm apart: they are jealous and will sting each other!

Weekly Cleaning:

  • Change 1 cup of water out of 10 with pure water (RO).
  • Remove black algae from the glass with a magnet.
  • Clean the skimmer pump (the one that makes foam).

Feeding:

Twice a week, turn off the pumps for 30 minutes. Add a drop of liquid coral food (like amino acids) into the flow: they catch it like small fish.

Start with a little: open polyps = happy. If they are closed, less food and more clean water.
