Where do they live?

These frogs inhabit the rainforests of South America , primarily in Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Brazil. They prefer humid, vegetated environments, often hiding among the leaves or in the squirts of bromeliads, which act as mini natural swimming pools.

Ranitomeya frogs are among the most beautiful frogs around: their bodies are often decorated with combinations of electric blue, fiery red, bright yellow, and deep black . Are they really poisonous?

In the wild, their skin secretes alkaloid toxins derived from their diet of ants and small toxic insects. But don't worry: if raised in captivity and fed a different diet, they completely lose their toxicity , becoming completely harmless.
