Rinse wood with water before use to remove any dust or debris.
Most driftwood is buoyant and needs to be soaked for about a month to absorb water and sink. During the initial setup, use rocks, anchors, narrow driftwood, or other methods to temporarily submerge the wood until it is completely submerged.
Driftwood can release tannins during initial setup, giving the water a cognac-like appearance, similar to natural rivers like the Amazon. Tannins are not harmful to aquarium inhabitants but can be controlled with frequent water changes.
To minimize tannins during the initial stage, you can boil the wood for a few hours or soak it in water for a month before adding it to the aquarium.
Saprolegnia, a white, mushroom-like growth, may appear on the wood during the initial stage. If this occurs, scrape it off and vacuum it frequently with a small hose. It should disappear naturally within a month of initial appearance.
Driftwood can cause a decrease in the water's pH level. It is recommended to maintain a minimum kH of 3 to create a buffering effect and monitor the pH level regularly.

By following these instructions for use, you can ensure a safe and healthy environment for the inhabitants of your aquarium, paludarium, or terrarium, while enjoying the natural beauty that wood offers.
